DiaperWare: Absorbency Chart

In my quest to help you decide what diaper will work best for your little one for different situations I wanted a way to help judge absorbency of diapers. These charts are to help judge overall volume or amount of absorbency which is dictated by how much absorbent material there is in a diaper. Speed of absorbency is a separate (but important for forceful wetters) issue that is dictated by the density or looseness of the weave. The looser the weave the faster the absorbency. For volume of absorbency I have seen lots of water testing done, but they all seem so variable in results based on how many break in washings were done (very important when judging absorbency of unbleached or hemp fabrics which increase in absorbency with washing) what they were washed in (detergent residues interfere with absorbency) how hard the water is and numerous other variables. Also I would not want my babies diaper to be dripping wet from front to back when I take it off my babe so that makes it confusing too! So to decrease the variables of these types of tests what I have is some simple charts of product weights. Weight is determined by how much material is present to absorb. Different types of materials are on different charts because they cannot be judge against each other by weight. But in general hemp is thought to be twice as absorbent for its weight then cotton is. Cottons with nonabsorbent polyester blended in for durability and stretch will need to be decreased by the percentage of poly to compare.
